Getting to Morro de São Paulo by Car

If you want to get to Morro by car you first must consider that the island itself does not allow motorvehicles anywhere on the island. For that matter there are no roads on the island itself.

The closest you can get by car is a town called Valença. There you need to leave your car at one of two parking lots.

From there you can take a speed boat - which takes around 30-40 minutes - or a regular boat - which need around 1:30 hours. The speed boat costs 14 R$ where the regular boat costs 7R$. There are boats leaving every full hour. The last boat leaves at 6 PM.

You can get to Valença:

  • By Ferryboat:

Take the ferryboat from 'Terminal Marítimo de São Joaquim' to the island Itaparica (There you will arrive at Terminal 'Bom Despacho'). It takes around 45 minutos. Ferries leave the port regularly approximately every 1h10. To see a detailed schedule and get current information on fares go to the website of the company http://www.travessiasonline.com.br or call 71 3254-1020. Whenyou arrive on the island Itaparica take the road BA-001 heading to Valença.

  • Over The Highway

Take highway BR-324, then BR-101 and finally BA-542 to Valença (see the map here).
