The Village of Morro de Sao Paulo

Vila de Morro de São Paulo

The pituresque village of Morro de São Paulo is a place with a very unique charm. Full of vibrant life the village is the center of Morro de São Paulo. It is where you will find most hostels, restaurants and shopsÉ onde se concentram a maior parte das pousadas, restaurantes e lojas em geral. Despite being crowded it is still a small and cosy village - you can reach anything by foot with a small walk. No cars are allowed on the steets of the village - as all over Morro de SP.

The main road is called 'Beach Road' (rua Caminho da Praia) simply because it leads you to the 1st beach. The road starts at the main plaza (praça Aureliano Lima). This is the place to go and meet during the night and where everybody goes to 'be seen' and where night lift starts.

On this main road you will find one bar next to another - you also find many small barracs where you can taste caipirinha, caipirosca or other tastes with cachaca and fruits.

On the main plaza - praça Aureliano Lima - from 7pm on there is a handicraft market and right next to it lies the so called 'Casarão' - the 'big house' - a pink house in colonial style which is part of the historic monuments of Morro de SP. Right besinde this house there is a gate from where you can access the Rua da Fonte Grande (big fountain road). This road leads you down to the next monument - the Fonte Grande.

The village of Morro de São Paulo also has the 'praça da Amendoeira', which is a plaza located on top of a slope leading to the port - on the left hand side you will find the church Nossa Senhora da Luz. If you continue the along the coast you will eventually end up at the lighthouse (farol).
